• The concert directed by Christensen marked the
high point of the weekend.
"Without
doubt, the high point of the series was the concert in which Carl Christensen
directed the UNT Symphony Orchestra. The Alberdi Theater was packed and
extra chairs had to be set up in the aisles.
The audience enjoyed the obvious charisma of Christensen, the memories
evoked by old songs of Duke Ellington, and themes from famous movies like The Sound of Music and The Man of La Mancha. The success of the concert was clearly
evidenced by the obvious joy of the audience as they exited the theater after
the concert."

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . • The concert "Symphonic Jazz" moved a select audience in the Alberdi Theater.
"Emotion. Such is the feeling that prevailed during the concert "Jazz
Symphony II" given on Friday by the UNT Symphony Orchestra, under the
direction of Northamerican Carl Christensen."
"Christensen managed to revive the magic of big-band jazz. And more. He added warmth and sympathy to the show, explaining the origin of some of the pieces and doing some teaching about jazz."
"Christensen has been a
prominent and dedicated contributor to the local music and education
communities for decades. This January he
is justly being recognized by the Arts Council for Monterey County as a Luminary Champion of the Arts."
"You'll be hearing more about his leadership of Monterey County Pops! as the organization continues to expand its concerts, educational
programs and community outreach efforts."
